Self build included in Highland housing plan

A plan to build new homes in a small town in the Scottish Highlands will include opportunities for self build, it was announced this week.
Developers Davhall Developments have submitted a planning application to build 79 new homes in the town, including six lots set aside for self build homes, the Strathspey Herald reports.
Consultant for the firm and former housing manager for the Highland council's Badenoch and Strathspey area Michael Hamilton said the development would offer more affordable homes than the normal required quota, adding: "We are also being innovative in offering six plots for self-build via a postcode system" that will prioritise those living nearby.
Local people seeking to self build in the area may use timber as one of the construction materials, as this is a major local industry in the area.
Boat of Garten lies in the northern part of the Cairngorms National Park, which according to the National Park authority website has a resident population of 16,000.
