Self build never made 'more sense'

The notion of building your own home has never made more sense than in today's economic climate, according to allmediascotland.com.
It is argued that the UK self build sector is taking full advantage of the property slump, especially as one of the biggest hurdles is becoming less of an issue.
One of the most significant challenges for self builders has been finding the right piece of land at the right price but now it is claimed that developers are trying to recover capital by selling off plots.
Many developers are often selling at substantial discounts, it was reported, allowing the market to move in favour of the buyer.
Furthermore, it was suggested that the majority of self builders will avoid paying stamp duty and the completed property is often valued at between 20 per cent and 30 per cent above the total cost of the project.
Argos recently launched a DIY flat-pack home for just under £11,000.
The Helsinki is a log cabin with five rooms, laminate flooring and loft space for storage and the retailer is also offering a cabin with underfloor heating for just over £13,000.
