Self builders advised to think before building

Those looking for planning permission to self build their homes need to take a number of elements into consideration when they are planning, it has been suggested.

Aspiring self builders need to be aware of local issues such as the kind of buildings that exist, Only Finance has stated, giving the example of the potential conflict of putting a townhouse in an area characterised mainly by bungalows.

The website also said careful planning and visualisation would help an architect to draw up the blueprint of the home.

Another issue which many people planning a self-built home will consider is the environment.

Eco home firm GreenMoves recently stated that the self build market has always been at the heart of the green building market.

Managing director Julian Brooks said that many self builders were green builders because they "don't see those sorts of buildings being developed by anyone else and they have to do it themselves".
