Self builders 'should pick water plots'

People constructing their own homes ought to ensure that they pick a good plot close to water, it has been claimed.
According to the Sunday Mirror, a number of areas now offer dwellings next to water features, such as Glasgow, Manchester and Leeds.
Persimmon Homes official Sharon Robinson told the publication that these places are typically going to be attractive to buyers.
And chief executive at Isis Waterside Regeneration Mark Ryder added that there are many reasons why people could opt for these locations.
"Good developments link with the area's heritage and interact with the water there might be moorings for boats, for example, or water taxis to provide transport. And if they are well-built they will hold their value," he asserted.
A report released by the Institution of Civil Engineers has today said that people ought to ensure flood defences are in place, in the wake of last year's flooding problems.
