Shift from selling to double renting 'a prominent trend'

A new trend has been observed where home movers are tending to rent out their own homes rather than selling them, before renting a house themselves in turn.

Simon Preston, chairman of postal address changing service iammoving.com said: "People are shifting from owner occupying to renting and people who would otherwise have been selling their home are renting it out and then moving to other rented accommodation."

He added that this trend has not just been seen in big cities but all over the country.

Mr Preston said he was less sure about suggestions that movers were increasingly abandoning the cities for commuter towns.

This comment came after removals service MoveMe.com stated that commuter towns in the south of England were the most popular among movers it had polled, whereas the ten most unpopular residential locations were in London.

Home movers who do not want to move into rented accommodation could opt for self building a new home instead.
