Singer backs green amendment

Pop singer Lily Allen has given her support to a campaign that could encourage more people to renovate or self build their homes with green energy features included.

Ms Allen voiced her support for a drive to persuade MPs to insert an amendment to the energy bill in Parliament this week which would ensure that householders and businesses who generate green energy for the national grid from their own properties are contractually guaranteed a minimum price from energy companies, Friends of the Earth reports.

Ms Allen said she understood the benefits of green energy after working in a solar-powered recording studio in London, adding: "I fully support giving people a renewable energy reward for the power they generate."

Last week campaign groups including Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth and Enoughsenough.org placed adverts in national newspapers to highlight the campaign.

The chances of such an amendment being passed may be high, as 270 MPs have signed an early day motion in support of the move.
