Smaller firms falling behind on green housing demands

Smaller building firms must act quickly if they are to comply with government demands for green housing, the Federation of Master Builders (FMB has said.
With a growing number of Britons opting to take matters into their own hands when it comes to developing property with environmental benefits, the FMB has said that small builders still need to wake up to forthcoming requirements.
The government announced today (August 9th) that it had secured agreements with several organisations regarding the provision of zero-carbon homes - a sign of things to come for the industry.
"It's probably the smaller firms that are actually having to get up to speed on the issue," commented FMB director of external affairs Brian Berry.
"They think that there is a deficient demand at the moment from the public for green homes.
"With the government's target to reduce carbon emissions and have zero carbon homes by 2016 - everyone's going to have to respond," Mr Berry concluded.
