Straw bale building 'fast growing'

The practice of using straw bale as a building material is growing rapidly, construction training firm amazonails has said.
Business support manager Rachel Hammond commented that the interest in using the material for building has been increasing "almost daily".
She added: "When we attend events such as Ecobuild recently, it is noticeable that the people interested in these techniques, are already a lot more aware than even last year."
However, Ms Hammond stated, methods and materials such as straw bale building and the use of wattle and daub or lime and clay plaster are not new developments, as these predate modern materials and techniques such as cement and concrete.
Self builders wanting to create eco friendly homes may look into using such materials in their own constructions.
The Centre for Alternative Technology in Machynlleth in mid-Wales and the Carymoor Environmental Centre at Castle Cary in Somerset are both good examples of straw bale buildings, states strawbale-building.co.uk.
