Survey shows green renovation popularity

Most of those surveyed in a new study on eco homes have said they are keen to see existing homes renovated using devices to make them greener.

The study by Knight Frank and EC Harris found that 87 per cent of respondents said they would not be against this sort of retro-fitting of existing homes.

Such a finding suggests that those thinking of renovating their own homes to make them greener will be in good company.

One finding of the report was that eco-friendly developments such as the Lake Shore housing project in Bristol by Urban Splash were examples of "the emergence of a distinctive eco-friendly niche market".

Those looking to self build there homes may find making them green will increase their value in this market should they be sold on in the future.

In an attempt to show what is possible, the presenter of TV programme Grand Designs Kevin McCloud has set out to meet the challenge of designing and building an eco-friendly home in the space of a week, it was reported earlier this month.
