Survey shows wish for green home incentives

Most householders would be willing to implement changes to their homes to make them more environmentally friendly if the government made more incentives available, new research has found.

The study by property portal Thinkproperty.com found that 70 per cent would be keen to undertake new measures if there was extra help such as lower council tax bills.

Another finding was that 80 per cent wanted to see more help for measures such as the installation of insulation and solar panels.

Suzanne Deakins, head of group marketing for the website, said such homes could be more valuable, commenting: "With budgets generally tight for home movers with rising energy prices, any evidence of lower energy bills or lower stamp duty could make a real difference to the sale of a property."

Such considerations may lead those keen to get on the housing ladder to consider the self build of an eco-friendly home.

The budget, which may see chancellor Alistair Darling introduce such incentives, will be on March 12th, the Treasury announced recently.
