Sustainable housing is completely feasible

Zero carbon homes made in their entirety from sustainable materials are totally feasible, according to one property expert.

Bill Dunster, who runs an architectural firm called ZEDfactory, said that the only thing that stops these kind of homes being rolled out is that UK homebuilders are not making a concerted enough effort to make it be so.

His company do, but because they are a small firm they can only build a few homes each year so there are no economies of scale.

He said: "The main obstacle is reducing cost to the developer. The big problem here is that increased construction cost comes straight off land value."

Mr Dunster''s plea to property developers is to "just get on and do it voluntarily" because sustainable housing is coming" and if everybody does it at the same time you will reduce the cost for everybody and the planet and the consumer will benefit".
