Swansea''s regeneration wins top award

A regeneration scheme on the outskirts of Swansea''s city centre has been named runner up in a prestigious national competition for home improvements.
The Hafod Renewal Area came second in the National Home Improvement Council''s Awards owing to its immense impact on the local area.
Residents and visitors alike have been impressed with the new improved uniform look of houses and businesses in the area while confidence and price in the Hafod has also been restored.
Graham Thomas, the cabinet member for housing on the Welsh assembly, said: "I''m delighted that the work taking place in the Hafod has been recognised at a national level."
Welsh assembly funds were poured into restoring shop fronts, replacing chimneys and roofs and repairing windows and guttering because a survey in 2001 showed that it had the worst living conditions in the city.
Work continues into next year as more houses are revamped to add to the 550 houses and retail premises which have already been regenerated.
