Take action now against subsidence

Now is the time to take action against any subsidence that may cause trouble in your home because the risk grows throughout the summer, hot months.
There has been a 50 per cent increase in the number of claims for subsidence since 2002 but there are ways in which homeowners can reduce their risk of such damage to properties.
"Signs that a property might be suffering from subsidence include cracks in walls, particularly if they are start from corners of windows or doors which themselves may become difficult to open or close," said Neil Curling from a home insurance firm.
It may be due to precious mining activity in the area or due to inadequate drainage so check both these factors. Your local water authority can check the oncoming water main while tall trees near the home is also a risk.
Don''t plant large trees near the property and when in doubt over a subsidence claim, contact your home insurance company.
