Terraced house prices

House prices are most speedily rising for terraced properties in comparison to other types of property, according to new research.

Halifax Estate Agents has found that over the last five and ten years it is terraced houses which have increased in value the most with rises in value totalling 239 per cent as opposed to 235 per cent for other types of property.

Tim Crawford, the economist leading the research, said: "Although the average price of a terraced house is still below the UK all property average, the gap has narrowed."

He said this is probably due to regional differences in property stock where there are lots of terraced homes available outside London while inside the capital flats are more populous.

The average terraced property in the UK is now £186,316 while in the north it is £125,058 compared to an average UK detached house value of £326,396.

Terraced homes in Northern Ireland have seen the most marked increases in value.
