This cube will transform your home

A £25 gadget has been touted as the answer to saving greenhouse gas emissions and reducing the amount of energy your home uses up.

Called the e-cube, it is made of wax, is three inches across and goes around your fridge''s thermometer.

This means that the fridge works less hard to keep everything cold and does not use up as much power by responding to every opening and shutting of the fridge door. It has a massive impact on your home energy bill because fridges take up about a fifth of all domestic electricity in the UK.

Campden and Chorleywood Food Research Association Group found that the e-cube has no derogatory effects on the food contained in the fridge.

Its report said: "The devices do indeed save energy.

"The slightly increased variation in temperatures in dummy loads would indicate that food safety would not be compromised."

The cube''s manufacturers Ecube Distribution claims that if every fridge in the UK had a cube then carbon dioxide emissions would fall by over 2 million tonnes a year.
