Britons worried the economic downturn could cause problems as they try to sell their home have been given a list of innovative tips to allow them to move.

The BBC has offered five novel ways of getting a buyer to choose a home and complete a deal.

Staging a raffle is one way of selling a home, but an averagely-priced house would need to sell around 6,500 tickets at £25 each to cover the value of the home.

Sellers can also package in a free gift, with Rick Hill planning to package his £1,150,000 home with a Lamborghini worth £150,000.

One man tried to sell his "entire life" - his car, job and friends - with his home for an eBay sale.

More sensible but still interesting methods include try-before-you-buy schemes and house swaps which can offer piece of mind and a reduced risk of a chain collapse respectively.

Earlier this week, the Building Societies Association welcomed the decision of the monetary policy committee of the Bank of England to cut the basic rate of interest by 0.5 per cent, noting deterioration in the economic climate with a stalling in the housing market.
