Traditional homes ''cost us the earth''

Greedy homebuilding companies "cost us the earth" at least according to Bill Dunster who runs an architectural firm.
He says we are in a scandalous situation where large-scale property developers have a gung-ho attitude towards using up fossil fuels and make little attempt to utilise sustainable building materials.
Ms Dunster claims these companies are selfish because "they just want to maximise the profits on their existing land banks".
He added that we are currently "fighting a war over fossil fuels" and that consumers are extremely interested in zero carbon homes but the supply can''t possibly meet the demand because economies of scale are not in place for sustainable builders.
Zero carbon homes are typically made with a timber frame sources within the UK with power supplied by wind turbines and heating provided via air-to-water heat pumps connected to an underfloor heating system.
Such homes will be exempt from stamp duty for a limited time, according to Gordon Brown.
