TV shows 'are driving self-build popularity'

More and more Britons are showing an interest in self-build housing due to the prominence of TV shows on the sector, new research has suggested.
Figures from Standard Life Bank have shown that 26 per cent of independent financial advisors (IFAs) believe the market for self-build advice is growing.
IFAOnline reports that the £4 billion sector will be worth £5.5 billion in 2010, with over half of all advisors believing that television shows were boosting interest in the self-build sector.
"Building your own home gives you complete flexibility to build it just the way you want, where you want. Financing a self-build shouldnt be an issue as long as you choose the right provider," Standard Life Bank head of sales Jackie Moran commented, adding that some lenders are now providing mortgages specifically designed for the sector.
Many village communities are now embarking upon self-build projects in order to resolve affordability problems, recent local media reports have suggested.
