The UK''s first ever housing export is expected to increase the amount of homes being built by 1,800.

Newcastle City Council has announced that it will be holding a housing expo in the summer of 2010 and that this will attract keen investors from all over Europe.

As the jewel in the crown of the Scotwoods area''s regeneration, the council plans to get over a thousand quality homes built which will improve the area and provide jobs, leisure facilities and parks for residents.

Mike Cookson, from the council said: "It''s got widespread support in the community and we are looking forward to the process of getting a partner on board."

Preliminary work to organise the expo begins towards the end of this year with a three month expo being staged a few years later.

It will take place on a large swathe of land that had its buildings demolished years ago and currently lies vacant.

Similar exhibits have been held successfully in Germany and Sweden.
