Villagers urged to give up land

Villagers in Shropshire have been asked to give up any free land they might hold as part of a drive to resolve housing shortage difficulties in the area.
Chelmarsh Parish Council has made the request of villagers living near Bridgnorth as a means of discovering which land is available to build homes on.
The Shropshire Star has reported that 382 homes are needed each year to meet demand in the area, according to a 2006 survey by the council.
"If people have spare land that they dont use and would give up for a small number of houses, we would urge them to come forward," said councillor Elizabeth Yeomans, according to the paper.
"If the survey shows there is a need for housing then we would need to find somewhere to put it and try and cater for some of the demand.
"Any house that would be built would go to people in the village as this is the whole point of the scheme. The local people would benefit."
The government currently plans to build around 190,000 houses a year to help ameliorate the housing situation.
