Wales pushes for greener homes

The Welsh assembly has received recommendations on carbon emissions that may have an effect on housebuilding in Wales in a new report.
In its list of ideas the national assembly sustainability committee said that all home developments above five houses should generate ten per cent of their energy on-site, while developments of less than five should achieve a 25 per cent reduction in emissions.
The committee has urged the Welsh assembly government to adopt these and other carbon-reducing recommendations to bring down the level of emissions from Welsh homes.
Groups of self builders that get together to produce a large development may be affected by the first measure, while those building on a smaller scale will be concerned with the second.
In addition to this, further recommendations that the government should help re-fit homes that are hard to heat may assist people looking at renovating their dwellings.
Self build currently accounts for ten per cent of new homes in Britain, the Times reported last week.
