Wet weather 'has not affected market'

This summer's flooding and heavy rainfall has not had an unduly negative effect on the building market, the Builders Merchants Federation (BMF) has said.
The federation has said that though the weather was naturally more difficult to deal with when waterproofing a home, but that building projects had not been unduly affected.
However, BMF managing director Chris Pateman said that simple processes such as laying bricks could be more severely impacted by the weather.
"As a general principle if it's tipping down with rain you can't lay bricks and, at this time of year particularly, builders focus on the putting up of the bricks and getting up the outer frame of the house to the point where its water and weather tight that's what they expect to do at this time of year," Mr Pateman commented.
"[But] overall I don't think it's affected the market terribly [
] the bulk of small builders are doing things like home extensions, replacement windows and that kind of stuff, so it's probably less weather sensitive," he added.
