Wind turbines are one of the most cost-effective technologies

Fitting a green self build with a wind turbine is a good way to save money, according to British Eco Energy.

Andrew Moore, managing director of the organisation, said that providing the area has a very good wind-speed, wind turbines are an effective renewable energy solution.

"The main advantage with them is that they work at night as well as the daytime and actually produce probably more energy during the winter when we need more energy than during the summer," he said.

In a recent report, the Committee on Climate Change claimed that wind generation could make a significant contribution to total electricity generation both in the UK and around the world.

The committee said that wind generation could provide up to 30 per cent of the UK's electricity by 2020 and the costs of the technology have fallen fourfold since the 1980s.
