Sheffield’s First Custom Build Event Attracts Huge Interest
The Custom Build Information Day, held on Saturday 22nd November at the Town Hall, has been heralded a huge success by Sheffield City Council and organisers BuildStore.
Attended by over 150 local residents who were keen to find out how to build an affordable, aspirational home of their dreams in Sheffield, the event was held in response to Sheffield City Council recently being awarded £100,000 to deliver self build sites in a pilot of the Government’s ‘Right to Build’ scheme.
With a packed programme of presentations and talks throughout the day, the event also showcased local companies that could help those looking to custom build, such as architects, designers and financial advisors, with support from the University of Sheffield and the Sheffield Co-Housing Network.
Councillor Harry Harpham, deputy leader of Sheffield City Council and cabinet member for homes and neighbourhoods, said: “We were delighted with the large number of exhibitors and potential custom builders who attended Saturday’s event at the Town Hall. It was really great to see so many Sheffield residents excited about the potential for custom build in their city, as well as interest from beyond our city boundaries.“
It is anticipated that the Sheffield Custom Build project will encompass a wide range of building developments, from single dwelling homes to community and co-housing developments with Sheffield City Council working with BuildStore’s Custom Build Homes division to help meet individual requests. Anyone interested in developing their own custom build housing project, or who would like to receive details of custom build opportunities as they arise, are advised to sign up to online registers: www.sheffield.gov.uk/custombuild and www.custombuildregister.co.uk .
Raymond Connor, Chief Executive, BuildStore Ltd, added: “With each plot coming fully serviced and ready to build upon, you can do as much or as little as you desire, whether it’s getting hands-on with construction or simply deciding interior fixtures and fittings. It’s a ‘win/win’ for those wishing to live in Sheffield & South Yorkshire as this gives them the opportunity to remain living in their community whilst creating the home of their dreams.”
