| Jerry and Jackie Cooke ran
their own business in Bawtry near Doncaster and lived in a
small flat on a pleasant modern estate. When their son was
born it was time to begin the search for a larger home. The
couple noticed a piece of ground next to a BT housing station
on their estate and began to make enquires as to whether it
was possible for them to buy it. Initial enquiries proved
unsuccessful but the Cooke’s were determined and after
6 year BT finally agreed to sell them the plot.
The Cooke’s moved into an old cottage near to the build,
which turned out to be haunted! They then decided to move
to a caravan onsite.
They carried out some of the work themselves including laying
the foundations and doing the electrics and plumbing and constructing
the roof.
The Cooke’s chose to fund their build through the Accelerator
Mortgage. The Accelerator allowed them to borrow up to 95%
of the land and build costs and provided them with stage payments
in advance of each build stage.

the installation of the services. The additional costs this
involved would have been huge had we not looked at all the
other options. The Accelerator
Mortgage was so good to use. We didn’t have to worry
about money which made things far less stressful.”
The couple have now completed their build and are extremely
pleased with the finished result and have enjoyed their project.
Jackie Cooke “It was difficult working
all day and then working on the house in the evenings, there
were some nights when we worked until midnight under lights!
However it has been worth it and we now have a great family
home which exactly what we wanted for ourselves and our family”.
